Brandon Lads 3 Moreton Hall A 2
Brandon
Lads u15s played their last ever game against a spirited
Moreton Hall A. The Lads are unable to continue together
for Brandon next season and were up for ending the
season on a high. Brandon started the stronger, some
good passing and forward runs from midfield. Joe Brookes
fought hard to win a lost cause, played a fine ball to
Lewis King, who neatly played in Jordan Fisher. Jordan
has been in awesome finishing style of late and didn't
disappoint, taking on the last man before dribbling
round the keeper for 1 - 0. Fisher soon made it 2 - 0
with a superb individual move and strike to put Brandon
in the driving seat. Matt Bullock and Tom Bullen were
solid in defence as they have been most the season,
supported by a battling Kyle Green at left back. Sam
Molyneux and Joe Brookes were trying to stretch Hall
with wide runs down the wings, Ross Markiewicz ands
Jamie Gristock fighting to cut out all Hall could put
together across midfield. Brandon dominated the 1st
half, yet Moreton Hall came out fighting. Brandon had
made risky changes, Hall taking advantage of a nervy
start by pulling one back from close range early on.
Stand in keeper, Jamie Gristock, had no chance, yet
minutes later pulled off a brilliant save when Hall
looked to have an equaliser. Gristock looked to have
been chipped, yet got back to make a double save on the
line. Hall eventually did catch Brandon on the break. As
'The Lads' pushed for a third, Hall won the midfield
battle, played some nice passes and fired home for 2 -
2. Jordan Fisher thought he had secured his hat trick
when his powerful drive came down off the bar, onto the
line and out. With just three minutes to go Brandon
saved the game with a trade mark Tymal Mills header,
looped over the keeper to sneak under the bar for 3 - 2
Brandon. Man of the match; Jordan Fisher.

East Bergholt 5 Brandon Lads 4
Probably the most exciting game of the season. Brandon
were forced back early on, Tymal Mills making some great
saves including an amazing double stop and fingertip
push around the post. Eventually a Bergholt breakthrough
came, a well worked effort finished from close range.
The Lads were quick on the break though, equalizing just
before half time through a fine Jordan Fisher bottom
corner finish. Brandon were more confident second half,
good passing and movement from Joe Brookes and Lewis
King down the left. Bergholt were next to strike though,
Brandon too slow to play out of their own area. Dan
Weekes bought Brandon back into the game with a
speculative long range shot, slipping through the
keepers legs for 2 - 2. Brandon went ahead for the first
time after good pressure. Fisher held the ball up,
played to King who sent Brookes down the wing, Joe hit a
great cross that the Bergholt defender could only fire
into his own net for 3 - 2. A great ball from Fisher put
Dan Weekes away, unlucky to chip just over the bar.
Weekes made up for this a few minutes later with an
awesome strike from distance that beat the Bergholt
keeper for 4 - 2. Sam Molyneux almost made it 5 - 2 with
a cool strike that beat the keeper and shaved the post.
Title chasing Bergholt were stunned into action, pulling
a goal back through a fine move and individual skills in
the box before the forward calmly slotted the ball home.
Brandon were unlucky to see Bergholt equalize in
the last few minutes with a high shot/ cross that beat
Mills, dipping under the bar. With just seconds
remaining, Bergholt pressed for the win, forcing a
corner and firing home to complete an incredible
comeback. A shell shocked Brandon deserved at least a
point, yet will take lessons into their last home match
next week against Moreton Hall A. - 12.30 K.O. MoM Dan
Weekes.

Brandon Lads 1 Melton 5
Brandon had their work cut out against a quick and
talented Melton side. Despite being the underdogs,
Brandon started well, with superb defending from Dan
Weekes, Tom Bullen, Matt Bullock and Joe Brookes.
Some fine passing work down the left from Lewis King and
Jordan Fisher provided the chance for Tymal Mills to cut
in and fire towards goal with power. The ball struck the
post, deflecting off the Melton centre back and into the
net for a Brandon lead. The Lads continued to defend
well, Jordan Campell making some quality saves
throughout the first half. Liam Conroy saw his fine
effort from distance clear the bar, yet Melton were
starting to press for the equaliser. Eventually it came
from an excellent run down the left, the ball crossed in
to be fired home from close range. Melton scored a
second just before the break, turning the game after a
Brandon mix up in defence. Brandon Lad, Sean Dyer, was
taken to hospital with a broken arm and a Melton player
suffered a suspected broken ankle. We wish them both a
speedy recovery. Some fine effort from the lads in the
second half was not enough to stop a rampant Melton help
their push for the title. Melton scored four second half
goals with no reply from Brandon to take the match
5 - 1.
Man of the match; Sean Dyer.

Chantry Grasshoppers 2 Brandon Lads 0
The
Lads started well in this tough away fixture, showing
good character and teamwork to keep out a strong Chantry
side. Tom Bullen and Matt Bullock were once again superb
in the centre of defence, flanked by gritty performances
from Joe Brookes and Joe Stirling early on. Brookes soon
took a nasty blow to the mouth though, brave to carry on
after treatment. Brandon found it hard to peg Chantry
back into their own half, meaning any chances were on
the break or from set pieces. Jordan Fisher hit a fine
free kick for Dan Weekes to head on, yet the keeper was
quickly onto it. A long throw from Mills gave Weekes
another effort on goal, backed up by long range efforts
from Gristock and Fisher after good work from Conroy.
The lads looked to have held the first half to 0-0, yet
a rash challenge from Gristock gifted Chantry a penalty.
Jordan Campbell got a cross well to his right but was
unable to stop a perfect drive inside the post for 1-0.
Brookes had to stay off 2nd half, Sam Molyneux stepping
in well at left back and Ross Markiewicz coming on to
battle in midfield. Brandon continued to fight on,
chances for an equaliser coming from Bullen with a long
range free kick and Mills firing just wide after superb
closing down by the Chantry keeper. Campbell made two
fine saves for Brandon, the game well balanced until
just a few minutes from time, when Chantry took a quick
free kick. Brandon were caught out as a nice through
ball took out both Bullen and Bullock for the striker to
slot the ball past an on form Campbell for 2-0. This
game was still a credit to the lads, showing a much
better desire and good teamwork throughout.

Needham 7 Brandon Lads 2
Brandon took a depleted team to Needham, only able to
pull together a bare eleven through injury, and short of
centre backs. An excellent start, against the odds, saw
Brandon take the lead when a long Tymal Mills throw was
headed home with style by Michael Watts. The Lads almost
went two ahead when Mills played the ball back for Sam
Molyneux to strike from 25 yards out, beating the keeper
and just clearing the bar. Dan Weekes had early chances
to strike for goal and square for others, yet the heavy
pitch effected his touch. Watts was full of running and
desire, showing his team mates the way, yet too few
responded with the same effort. Jordan Fisher looked
menacing going forward, yet had to work hard and get
back to support a tentative defence. Needham were soon
back in the game though, a fine cross and shot for 1 -
1, followed by a quick break before finishing from close
range. Jordan Campbell had made some quality first half
saves though, Brandon looking hungry enough to get even
before the break. The lads then suffered a killer blow,
going down to ten men when left back, Joe Brookes,
suffered a bad knee injury. Needham went further ahead
after a neat individual run and well placed third. After
the break Brandon were the better team for a good
fifteen minutes, closing the gap after superb work from
Liam Conroy. Liam showed good skill and composure to go
through the midfield, playing in Fisher for a dazzling
run and pass for Mills to latch onto and blast home for
3 - 2. The lads were right back in it until an
unfortunate goal keeping error gifted a fourth to the
home side. Brandon heads went down and too many
Brandon players seemed to give the game up. Needham
sensed this and stepped up their game, scoring three
goals in the last ten minutes, the first a terrific
strike from the left to beat Campbell with wicked
swerve. Brandon have a break now for a couple of weeks,
needing this to get the whole squad fit and back to
winning ways.

2007 Brandon lads 0 Sicklesmere 3
The Lads never really
seemed to settle, pass and play in this dreary
afternoon match, making hard work of what should
have been a pretty even, competitive encounter.
An eventful start saw Sam Molyneux play a defence
splitting pass through for Tymal Mills to go 'one on
one' with the Sicklesmere keeper. Mills saw his
effort run just wide of the post, whilst the keeper
was carried off after suffering a knock in the
challenge. When the game re-started it was
Sicklesmere with most desire, although Brandon
should have been testing the stand in visitors
keeper. Sicklesmere eventually broke the deadlock, a
speculative cross taking a cruel deflection off
Weekes for 1 - 0. Jordan Campbell made a couple of
excellent saves to keep Brandon in the game before
half time, yet little was coming off for Brandon at
the other end. Second half, Mills saw his fine,
dipping strike come back off the bar after some nice
build up play between Jordan Fisher and Sean Dyer.
Dan Weekes came close with a neat flick from close
range, the Sicklesmere keeper doing well to turn
onto his post. Overall Brandon looked tired, yet
didn't have any luck either, failing to hit back at
all, despite two more Sicklesmere goals. The second
conceded was from close range, Brandon failing to
clear in the box, the third an unstoppable header
after a fine build up. With five league games left,
Brandon need far better team performances to stop a
slide from a decent fifth place in Division One.

Sunday 28th January
2007 Brandon Lads 2 East Bergholt 3 K/O Cup 1/4 final
Brandon started well, putting in a great first half
performance with fight and determination. The lads
soaked up pressure at times, yet attacked with pace and
quality. Eventually a neat nod over the defence from
Lewis King sent Tymal Mills through to run in and finish
in style. Brandon tried to build on the lead, a
brilliant effort from 35 yards striking the bar from
another King effort. East Bergholt were back in it
before the break though, a good through ball lashed in
from close range for 1 - 1. Jordan Campbell made a fine
save to keep things even, Brandon coming close too at
the other end. A long throw from Mills was then met by a
well placed Jordan Fisher header for 2 - 1 Brandon. The
lads were looking good for the win, yet Bergholt drew
even mid second half, a chipped ball over the Brandon
defence was headed back across goal to leave Campbell
stranded. At 2 - 2 and late into the game both sides
were trying to steal the win before extra time. Some
great defending, from Dan Weekes and Tom Bullen
especially, helped give 'The Lads' confidence, Mike
Watts and Joe Brookes doing a great job on the wings to
create chances on the break. With less than five minutes
on the clock Bergholt won a corner, curling the ball in
close to goal for the Bergholt striker to stretch and
win the game with a fine finish. The Lads battled on,
yet missed their chance of a welcome semi final against
Sicklesmere or Mildenhall.
Sunday 21st January
2007 Mildenhall Utd 3 Brandon Lads 4 (Friendly)
Brandon started the more
lively in this friendly game against local rivals,
Mildenhall United. Tymal Mills scored directly from
a long throw when an unlucky attempted save saw the
United keeper push the ball into the top of the net.
Lewis King made it 2 - 0 soon after with a well
struck free kick that beat everybody. Jordan Fisher
put a lovely ball through for Mills to hit a Brandon
third after fine work from Liam Conroy at the centre
of midfield. Mildenhall pulled one back from the
penalty spot after a hand ball decision went against
'The Lads'. In the second half Mildenhall battled
back, yet found Jordan Campbell in good form.
Brandon took a 4 - 1 lead from the spot, Joe Brookes
pulled down after a great run, Fisher placing well
past the keeper. Mildenhall hit two fine late goals,
the last in injury time was a bullet shot that went
in off the underside of the bar.
Man of the match; Jordan
Fisher.
Sunday 14th January
2007 Brandon Lads 11 St. Louis 2
Brandon were slow to start, finding
themselves pegged back for the first five minutes,
Jordan Campbell having to make a good early save. ‘The
Lads’ then came to life, Dan Weekes running through the
St. Louis defence before chipping over the keeper for
Michael Watts to finish with ease. Shortly after Lewis
King curled in a lovely corner for Tymal Mills to head
home a powerful second. Joe Brookes was unlucky not to
notch up the next for Brandon, a clever back header that
beat the keeper and ran just past the post. The third
came from a superb cross field ball from Watts, Weekes
powered it in from the right with an awesome first time
hit that bulged the back of the net. Brandon were now
flowing, quality showing through the team as chance
after chance were created. Dan Weekes hit a great fourth
goal, flicking the ball up to hit on the half volley
with his left, striking a dipping effort that gave the
St Louis keeper no chance. ‘The Lads’ had made changes
with players and positions to keep the game a contest,
yet the boys were in an unstoppable goal scoring mood.
Joe Brookes played a great ball through for Mills to
burst through and fire home for 5 – 0. Mills then
turning provider, a nice ball over the keeper for Sam
Molyneux to run in and head home from close range. Lewis
King added to his assist with a fine goal early second
half, finishing with a cool head. Ross Markiewicz came
on and battled well in midfield alongside a hard working
Liam Conroy, yet a defensive muddle helped St. Louis
pull a goal back. This was quickly cancelled out by
another fine Tymal Mills strike, Mills was on top form,
scoring two more from close range before St. Louis
passed the ball around the Brandon back line to score
their second. Watts rounded up the goal feast for ‘The
Lads’, hitting the net after a quality run and 18 yard
hit for a final score of 11 – 2 to Brandon.

Melton St. Audreys 6 BrandonLads 2
ISYL Open Cup
Brandon Lads u15s
tackled a tough away fixture against top of the
league rivals Melton, of Woodbridge. The Lads seemed
determined to make hard work of things, conceding a
penalty within the first minute. Jordan Campbell
made a superb save low to his right though, turning
the Melton shot around his post. Melton kept the
pressure up and scored after a fine cross
ball caught the Brandon midfield out for 1 - 0.
Campbell made an excellent close range save to keep
the game tight, Dan Weekes seeing his fine effort
saved at the other end. Tymal Mills had the only
other real chance first half, firing over the bar.
Melton doubled their lead just before half time
despite some excellent defending from Tom Bullen for
'The Lads'. Brandon caught Melton on the break early
second half, Michael Watts unlucky to see his shot
go wide. Melton scored what looked like a killer
third goal, yet Weekes warned of a comeback with a
long range effort, rattling the bar for Brandon.
Eventually Brandon pulled one back with a
terrific run and finish from Jordan Fisher, who slid
the ball coolly past the keeper. After some
excellent Brandon passing Watts hit another fine
goal, running through the Melton defence with style
before hitting the net. At 3 - 2 the next goal was
critical, Brandon attempted a great comeback against
a superb side and credit to the boys for their
effort. The critical next goal eventually came for
Melton, a close range effort after a quality build
up. Brandon battled to pull one back, yet as the
contest faded out Melton hit two late goals to
comfortably step into the semi finals as 6 - 2
winners.

2006 Whitton Utd 4 BrandonLads 1
Suffolk Minor Cup 3rd round
Brandon started
poorly and were unable get any grip on the game
despite playing down hill with the wind behind
first half.
Whitton scored
first when a long range effort beat Tony
Stimpson at his far post on his full debut.
Tymal Mills made it 1-1 with a strong run and
good finish before the break. Tom Bullen had yet
another good game in defence, Nicky Shepherd
also stepping in with some last gasp tackles to
keep Brandon in the game. Second half Stimpson
pulled off a string of quality saves, including
a penalty stop pushed over the bar. Brandon were
not imposing their normal game though,
having few efforts on goal. Dan Weekes came
close, before Whitton broke away and scored with
a well hit shot. Brandon pushed for the
equaliser, getting caught out in midfield to
lose a soft goal. Brandon were dead and buried,
Whitton taking advantage of Brandon frustration
with a fourth goal.

2006 Brandon Lads 6 Framlingham Town 0
ISYL Open Cup
'The Lads' started well,
taking the lead in the first five minutes when Lewis
King played a neat ball back for Liam Conroy to chip
over the Framlingham defence. Tymal Mills ran onto
this, using strength and pace before finishing
well for 1-0. Brandon kept putting the ball into the
box, looking dangerous with every attack, eventually
King was brought down as he cut across the defence.
Lewis then took the resulting penalty, firing home
with style. Despite Brandon looking solid in defence
with Bullock, Bullen and Shepherd again on form,
Framlingham started to put moves together and could
have pulled one back before half time. Only safe
goal keeping and some quality saves from Jordan
Campbell kept them out. Joe Brookes was awesome down
the left wing, breaking away with pace, setting up
Fisher and King as Brandon attacked relentlessly.
Liam Conroy was running the midfield for Brandon,
playing short passes, yet spreading the play well.
'The Lads' were in confident mood second half. Nicky
Shepherd played a brilliant ball through midfield to
break away, Mills powering through to almost burst
the net with his second. Mills came close to a
second hatrick in two games, seeing further well
worked efforts saved or just wide. Jordan Fisher had
a great day, capping his gritty performance with a
fine solo goal for 4-0. Sam Molyneux came close to
making it five, his close range hit pushed onto the
post and out. After a sramble and two good saves,
the Fram keeper was beaten by a low drive sweetly
struck from Tom Bullen. Mills turned provider for
the last goal, putting in a long throw for Dan
Weekes to score with a text book bullet header.

Sunday 26th November 2006 Brandon Lads 3 Needham 2 K/O
Cup
Brandon started slowly,
some of the boys taking time to settle into changed
positions due to injury. Needham were quick to
attack a loose midfield pass, firing home past an
outstretched Campbell for a deserved lead. The Lads
responded with two quick attacks, Tymal Mills
hitting the post from range and Jamie Gristock
shooting over. Brandon soon found themselves two
down after half tackles and sloppy defending gifted
Needham a second. The Lads had been losing every
individual contest for the ball, yet at 2-0 down
they turned a corner. Sharp tackles and quality
passing from Jordan Fisher, Mike Watts, Sam Molyneux
and Lewis King started to pay off. Some fine work
from King fed the ball through for Mills to power
home past two defenders. King then sent Mills
through again after a great Watts battle to win the
ball in the middle. Mills went past one man, played
the ball back onto his right foot and fired home
with style. All level at half time, determination
and commitment would see Brandon through. Joe
Stirling came on at right back and had an awesome
forty minutes alongside a solid Matt Bullock, Nicky
Shepherd and Joe Brookes in defence. Brandon caused
Needham lots of problems and didn't look like
conceding. Liam Conroy came on to help improve the
teams passing and movement, with quality play from
midfield once again creating chances. Jordan Fisher
attempted to dink a lovely ball over the last man
who headed back towards his keeper. Mills was fast
to steal in and headed over the advancing keeper
before scoring his third. The win was secured
by this Tymal Mills hat-trick, with credit to the
whole team for a well battled fight back.

Sunday
19th November 2006 Melton 3 Brandon Lads 1
Brandon
started in confident mood, matching Melton with quality
tackles and passing all over the field. Tom Bullen was
having another brilliant game, before suffering a nasty
injury to end his match. Nicky Shepherd stepped in
alongside a formidable Joe Brookes, Matt Bullock and Joe
Stirling at the back. Tony Stimpson worked hard to keep
the ball up front, closed down by a quality Melton back
four. Tymal Mills made some great saves for Brandon,
with Jordan Fisher and Dan Weekes having chances at the
other end. All square at half time, 'The Lads' came out
to fight for all three points. Weekes shot just wide
after being put through on the Melton goal, Brandon
strong in defence and dangerous on the break. Gabe
Flood, Jamie Gristock and Ross Markiewicz worked
tirelessly across midfield, supporting defence and
attack during some end to end play.
Eventually, Mills hit a long drop kick to Michael Watts
on the right, Watts went through the midfield playing a
lovely pass to Fisher on the left. Fisher skipped past
the defender and fired low past the Melton keeper for 1
- 0. Melton then went down to ten men after a straight
red card. This seemed to fire Melton up, scoring an
equaliser after the ball was whipped into the box with
pace following a good move. Brandon defended deeply to
secure a point, still attempting to break away. With
just minutes to go Melton hit a soft second goal
after a low shot slipped under Mills for 2 - 1. The
Lads re-organised and went all out for an equaliser,
pushing men forward with time running out. At the end of
this even, well fought match Melton flattered their
result with a deflected third goal for a 3 - 1 win.
Brandon can be proud of a fine performance with
excellent attitude from the boys.
Sunday
12th November 2006 Brandon Lads 2 Chantry Grasshoppers
1
Brandon Lads went into their toughest test of the season
against unbeaten table toppers, Chantry Grasshoppers.
The lads were not going to be intimidated though,
starting the better side with efforts from Dan Weekes,
Jamie Gristock and Michael Watts early on. Tom Bullen
had a great game again, safe in defence and twice close
to scoring. Always a danger from free kicks, Tom struck
the post from 25 yards and hit a top corner belter, just
tipped over the bar. After a great start Brandon
overplayed the ball in midfield, losing out and
suffering to a low, well struck Chantry drive. At 1 – 0
down ‘The Lads’ kept their heads and came out 2nd
half to play. Joe Brookes was superb supporting the
attack, playing quality balls through and coming close
himself. The Brandon equaliser was from great play, Matt
Bullock fought to keep the ball on, picked out Jordan
Fisher who linked with Tymal Mills. Watts picked up the
pass and played across for Mills to fire home. A fine
team goal by any standard. Joe Stirling, Nicky Shepherd
and Bullock continued to impress at the back, helped by
Gabe Flood in his debut this season. After end to end
play Jordan Campbell collected the ball in the Brandon
goal and put a long kick through for Fisher to run onto.
Jordan ran into the box and finished with style after
the Chantry keeper attempted to bring him down. Brandon
held on to take an excellent victory and bring the
Chantry 100% campaign to an end.

Sunday
5th November2006 Suffolk Minor Cup
Felixstowe & Walton 0 Brandon Lads 1
Brandon started with some lively attacking football. Joe
Brookes and Lewis King were linking well on the left,
playing through for Tymal Mills and Michael Watts to run
on and create chances. Joe Stirling played his first
full game, putting in a top class show supporting a
reliable Matt Bullock and Tom Bullen at the back. Dan
Weekes and Sam Molyneux were winning the battle on the
right, passing and moving with some style. Brandon broke
the deadlock when Tom Bullen played an awesome ball,
cutting through the midfield to King. Lewis was on fire
and could have scored a hat-trick in the first half, he
sprinted away from the Felixstowe defence and fired home
for 1 - 0. Brandon made more openings, with Tony
Stimpson coming on to assist the attack before half
time. Jordan Campbell had another excellent game in goal
for 'The Lads', matched by some fine saves from the
Felixstowe No.1. Jamie Gristock made a fine run before
shooting just over second half, Watts and Mills also
coming close with some superb efforts. Brandon should
have added to the first half strike and were nearly
punished when the home side hit the post with a great
long range effort.
Man of the match - Tom Bullen.
Sunday
29th October 2006 Brandon Lads 0 Needham Phoenix 2
Brandon were slow to start, allowing an upbeat Needham
the chance to take control. Poor defending allowed a
Needham striker in to flick the ball over Campbell for 1
- 0 from a long ball into the box. Things soon
became worse for 'The Lads' when Fisher gave away a free
kick on the edge of the area. Needham fired a fierce
shot into the wall, which deflected in to give the
keeper no chance. Brandon made changes, reshuffling to
bring themselves back into the game. Michael Watts
worked hard up front, with support at times from Brookes
and Mills, yet not much came off for Brandon in the last
third. The Brandon midfield had lost their usual passing
game, mainly down to a lack of movement and desire from
players off the ball. Some brighter spells early second
half, although Brandon never really looked like getting
the two goals needed to be back in the game. 'The Lads'
will need to up their team performance next week away in
the Suffolk Minor Cup.
Sunday
22nd October St Louis 0 Brandon Lads 4
Brandon started the better side, taking the lead after
quality passing set up Michael Watts to twist and turn
before hitting an awesome strike. This week Brandon were
able to build on their lead and keep it. Good work from
Jordan Fisher played in Lewis King for a superb goal,
cutting in from the left and passing past the keeper for
2 - 0. St Louis kept battling, unlucky not to pull one
back with some good play and efforts ruled offside.
Watts effectively sealed the win for Brandon with a
strikers finish for 3 - 0. Tymal Mills was safe in goal,
gathering well with little to save. Once again Matt
Bullock, Tom Bullen and Joe Brookes were confident at
the back, Jamie Gristock, Dan Weekes and Liam Conroy in
control of midfield. Brandon were flowing second half,
Sam Molyneux came close after out tricking the defence,
Dan Weekes hit the bar with a screamer and Fisher went
close before scoring a Brandon fourth. Jordan rode
tackles in the box, skipped wide of the goal, firing
home from a tight angle for a 4 - 0 Brandon win. MoM
Matt Bullock.
Sunday
15th October Brandon Lads 2 Mildenhall Utd 3
For the third game
running Brandon started the better side, taking the lead
after some excellent passing. Good work from Aaron
Shephard and Lewis King helped force an early Brandon
corner. Evading all heads, Jordan Fisher struck for 'The
Lads' to fire home for 1 - 0. Good work from Nicky
Sheppard, Tom Bullen and Matt Bullock kept any
Mildenhall attacks at bay, Brandon keen to take control
with a second. This eventually came from a superb Dan
Weekes header, looping the ball over Mildenhall's keeper
and into the top corner for 2 - 0. Whilst Brandon looked
for a third, Mildenhall broke down the left and pulled
one back with a long range dipping effort. Brandon had
chances to put the game to bed second half, King and
Fisher both seeing fine strikes well saved. Mills,
Watts and Gristock unable to find the target once
through. Sam Molyneux worked well combining with
Shephard down the right, setting up two decent chances
for 'The Lads'. As in the away leg, Mildenhall pulled
back level from two down with a corner. Brandon failed
to pick up, the Mildenhall forward putting away a good
header. Still anyone's game, the play went from end to
end. With some Brandon legs looking tired, Mildenhall
hit the killer blow, running through the defence and
firing home for their third. The Lads battled for the
late equaliser, Mills unlucky to have his goal ruled
offside late on. Once again time ran out for Brandon,
who now need to start picking up some points to reward
the efforts the boys have shown. Man of the match;
Jordan Fisher.
Sunday 8th October: Sicklesmere 3 Brandon lads 2
Brandon Lads u15s started well with some forceful,
attacking play. The defence looked solid from the
off, Liam Conroy, Matt Bullock, Tom Bullen and Jordan
Fisher working well to throttle the Sicklesmere attacks.
Brandon took the lead with a superb shot from Michael
Watts. After turning his man inside out Watts chipped
the keeper for 1 - 0. Sicklesmere hit back with a
speculative effort that eluded an otherwise untroubled
Campbell for 1 - 1. The Pythons took the lead with a
brilliant solo effort, their forward skipping past
several tackles before hitting an unstoppable strike.
Brandon raised their game 2nd half, forcing a run of
corners and efforts on goal. Sicklesmere hit back with a
killer goal when a well struck free kick came back off
Campbell to be headed home for 3 - 1. Brandon
re-shuffled and battled on, though luck on the day was
against them. Brandon pulled one back though, a stunning
free kick that dipped under the bar from Shepherd. Some
good work from Jamie Gristock and Danny Weekes in
midfield kept the game on a knife edge. Sam Molyneux,
Tymal Mills and Weekes all hit good efforts on goal in
the search for a late point. Time ran out, Brandon
feeling unlucky to have taken no points from this well
fought game.
Man of the match - Matt Bullock.
Sunday
1st October: Mildenhall Utd 3 Brandon Lads 3
Brandon started the better side with early pressure
through quality passing and movement. Fine goalkeeping
kept 'The Lads' out, efforts coming from, Lewis King,
Jordan Fisher and Dan Weekes. Finally, Michael Watts
went through Mildenhall's defence brilliantly, pulling
back a superb ball for Tymal Mills to fire into the
bottom corner. Matt Bullock, Joe Brookes and Nicky
Shepherd were well assisted by Liam Conroy in defence,
all having great first half performances to keep the
lead safe. After some good Brandon passing Watts cut the
ball back once again, Mills on hand to hit his second
goal for 2 - 0. The Lads looked in confident mood, ahead
going up hill with wind against them. The game was to
turn though, Mildenhall taking advantage of an edge of
box free kick which dipped under the bar to beat an
otherwise untroubled Jordan Campbell. After the break
the game opened up. Both teams had their chances, both
keepers showing fine form. Brandon attempted to clear
from a United corner, only to see the ball volleyed into
the back of the net with some style. At 2 - 2 it was
anyone's game, Brandon coming close through Jamie
Gristock, Fisher and Sam Molyneux before Mills bought
down a United forward in 'the lads' box. United scored
the perfect penalty, just inside the post giving
Campbell no chance. Brandon were not finished though,
Shepherd coming forward to head home a superb long throw
for 3 - 3. Both sides had chances to win in the last few
minutes, notably Watts for Brandon with great work
creating two late efforts on goal. George Winstone broke
his collar bone a clash during warm up, all at Brandon
Lads wishing him a speedy recovery. Man of the match -
Nicky Shepherd.
Sunday
17th Sept; Brandon Lads 0 East Bergholt 6
Brandon
Lads u15s were welcomed back into the Ipswich & Suffolk
A League following promotion as Champions last season.
This welcome became a lesson for 'The Lads' from a
strong, competitive East Bergholt. Despite some good
spells Brandon were too often second to the ball, too
slow to close down shots and often too keen to just
clear the ball. Bergholt scored on three minutes with a
fine run and strike from the edge of the box, Brandon
settled though, chances coming from Sean Dyer, and a
Tymal Mills one on one that went wide. Joe Brookes, Dan
Weekes and Matt Bullock were again excellent in defence
for long periods, helped by a superb Lewis King slipping
into left back. The Lads fought hard to get back in the
game, but a Bergholt shot late in the first half saw
Jordan Campbell save, before the ball fell for a
Bergholt striker to make it 2 - 0. The Lads started
better after half time, Jordan Fisher looking dangerous
once pushed up front, better passing and movement led
by Liam Conroy in midfield and a determination to pull a
goal back. The next goal looked crucial as it would sway
the match, East Bergholt made their chances count,
whilst Brandon saw their few efforts come to nothing.
The Bergholt forwards were clinical finishers, taking
their third goal with style. Brandon continued to
battle, yet after a long spell at 3 - 0 Bergholt hit
three late goals as Brandon lost their shape, taking the
final score to 6 - 0. This did not show a true
reflection in what was a much tighter game. Man of the
match; Jordan Fisher & Liam Conroy.
Sunday 10th Sept; Moreton Hall A 2 Brandon lads 2
This
first league game for both teams started evenly and well
matched across the field. Brandon should have
scored when Sean Dyer raced onto a long ball, the Hall
keeper smothering well. Other chances came but it was a
first half remembered for fine defending from both
teams. Dan Weekes, Matt Bullock, Ryan Santer and Joe
Brookes were excellent, Bullock in his first full match
for the club. Brandon continued to push, coming close
again after a run of long throws and
corners, yet all square 'til after the break. Jordan
Campbell pulled off some fine saves, looking safe and
confident for The Lads. Brandon eventually took the lead
when another Tymal Mills long throw was met by a fine
Jordan Fisher header, giving the keeper no chance.
Brandon were slow to react though, as Hall cut through
from the right to score a quick, well placed equalizer.
Sam Molyneux responded with two long range efforts,
easily taken by the on form Hall No.1. Unfortunately
'The Lads' only played their passing game in spells,
superb moves coming from Lewis King linking up with
Fisher. Brandon went ahead again after a run of attempts
in the crowded Hall box, Fisher again on target with a
great close range strike. Kyle Green almost made it 3 -
1, unlucky to see his shot beat the keeper and hit the
bar. The Lads had an effort cleared off the line, but
Moreton Hall fought all the way. With only a couple of
minutes left a swift Hall move saw a fine low drive beat
Campbell and squeeze inside the post for a 2 - 2
finish. Overall a fair result, with both teams giving
their all in a hot mid day match.
