April 2008 Thetford Youth 5 Brandon Lads 2
(Plate Competition Semi Final 1st leg)
The Lads started
quite well, dealing with some flowing Thetford
attacks and looking to break away, yet poor
defending let their striker in to score past
Callum Powell from a tight angle after 15 mins. Thetford
went on to dominate most the first half, scoring
three more whilst 'The Lads' could only muster
three half attempts on goal from Louis Ramage,
Matt Molyneux and Tom Deacon Davey. Centre back,
Frazer Hewkin, was Brandon's best player all
match, his quality shown with a great free kick,
lifted into the box for Molyneux to head home
for 4 - 1. Brandon pressed for a second before
the break, with players lifted by the goal. Luke
King and Jake Bunten were having decent games at
the back too, yet several Brandon lads lacked
focus and desire to win the ball. Second half
Brandon were much better, Jordan Hewitt, just
back from injury, did well when moved to left
back and Dan Field came on to battle in
midfield, yet against the run of play Thetford
hit a killer fifth goal. The Lads did work more
chances and eventually hit a second for 5 - 2.
Some great play by Tom Deacon Davey saw him run
through the defence, lifting a lovely ball over
for Matt Molyneux hit on the volley. His super
strike beat the keeper and flew into the top
corner. Matt later hit a similar strike, just
missing to deny him a deserved hat trick.

Brandon Lads 1 Swaffham 1
Brandon u14s started
slowly, Swaffham get into their stride and
playing good football. The Lads could have
fallen behind except for some last
ditch defending by Frazer Hewkin and Freddie
Cunningham. As Brandon improved they
put pressure on Swaffham, Preston Sharpe
and Louis Ramage linked up well, Sharpe heading
just wide. Jake Silverwood had a great game in
the midfield, Matt Molyneux and Tom Deacon Davey
superb on the wings, chipping great balls in for
the strikers. Brandon just edged the first half,
yet poor finishing saw half time at 0 - 0.
Second half, Callum Powell, proved himself again
as a very useful keeper, tidily sweeping up
behind a hard working Tom Molyneux and Daniel
Ayms at the back. In a well fought, even contest
something had to give. With 8 minutes to play
Hewkin bought down a Swaffham forward and paid
the price with a belter of a penalty. Powell got
his fingers to the ball but had no chance. At 1
- 0 down Brandon heads could have dropped, yet
the boys turned up the pace and eventually got
just reward. Matt Molyneux received the ball
half way, turned and flicked a great ball over
for Deacon-Davey to run on to, Tom sprinted in
on goal and let fly a cracking shot to bulge the
back of the net. A much deserved late point from
a game played in great spirit by both sides.

Brandon Lads 3 New Buckenham 3
A great game, played
in terrific spirit by both teams, under a lovely
winter sun. Both teams started with confident,
passing football, each trying to gain the
advantage. The Brandon back four of Daniel Ayms,
Frazer Hewkin, Freddie Cunningham and Tom
Molyneux were looking pretty solid, until a high
ball was dropped over the top and seized upon
for a New Buckenham opener. Brandon battled
back, unlucky not to equalise before a fine
individual goal made it 2 - 0. Matt Molyneux was
close to scoring when his quality header lobbed
the keeper and dropped just over the bar. Callum
Powell kept Brandon in the game with two
excellent saves, taking great kicks all match
too, for Brandon to keep the pressure up. Half
time Brandon were two down, yet responded with
good attacking play, resulting in Jake
Silverwood beating the defence and firing home.
This strike was dubiously given off-side, so
Brandon built again, eventually pulling one back
after goalmouth pressure. The ball came out for
Matt Molyneux to take past two players and fire
home for 2 - 1. Luke King came on and had a
great half at right back, Jordan Hewitt winning
every ball in the middle in his best game yet.
Tom Deacon-Davey broke through for an equaliser,
yet fired just wide. Further half chances came
for hard working Rob Barrett and Preston Sharpe,
yet to no avail. The Lads kept the belief and
when Frazer Hewkin stepped up to bend in his
corner the lads packed the box. Hewkin hit a
brilliant in swinger, beating the keeper to see
his strike dip in at the far corner for 2 - 2.
The Lads should have taken the lead, yet missed
chances before seeing a strong run and strike
appear to finished them. Brandon had worked too
hard for no points and pressed New Buckenham in.
With minutes to play Jordan Hewitt played in
Silverwood, his shot charged down. Matt Molyneux
picked the ball up left midfield and hit a 20
yard belter over the keeper and into the top
corner for a deserved equaliser and point for
the team. Final score 3 - 3.
Scorers - Matt Molyneux 2, Frazer Hewkin.

Brandon Lads 1 Thetford Magpies 5
K/O Cup semi Final 2nd leg
Brandon were
outclassed in this Knock Out Cup Semi Final
against a strong Thetford Magpies side. 'The
Lads' kept a clean sheet for 20 minutes, yet
once Thetford broke through the deadlock there
was only going to be one winner. Magpies were
quick to go forward with numbers, taking a 3 - 0
lead before Brandon pulled one back. Tom Deacon-Davey
received a lovely ball to cut through Magpies
defence and slot past the keeper. Good
performances from Frazer Hewkin, Jake Bunten and
Jordan Hewitt could not save Brandon on the day.
3 - 1 down at half time, 'The Lads' needed to up
their game, yet every time they pushed players
forward Magpies came back with better passing
and strong running. Magpies were awarded a
penalty for handball, Callum Powell saving
brilliantly, diving to his bottom right corner.
Brandon could then have pulled two back in quick
succession, Matt Molyneux through the defence
and beating the keeper, to see his shot go just
wide. Deacon-Davey hitting a fine strike which
came back off the bar. Eventually Magpies hit a
4th after a superb individual run and low
strike. Brandon looked beaten and tired, seeing
Magpies hit a deserved 5th goal to go through v
Swaffham in the final.

2008 Brandon Lads 0 Mattishall 3
Once again a bright
start turned to despair for 'The Lads'. A fine
run in on goal by Preston Sharpe was hit
straight at the opposing keeper, Tom Deacon-Davey
closed in from the right to fire wide and Louis
Ramage connected to a fine cross to also see his
chance go wide of the post. Brandon would
eventually rue their missed chances, going in at
half time 0 - 0 when they should have been well
on top. Second half saw Mattishall create more
chances, hitting Brandon on the break from a
corner and going through 'The Lads' defence for
1 - 0 despite good effort from Callum Powell in
goal. Brandon battled back, Matt Molyneux
hitting a long range effort well saved and
Ramage again firing wide once through on goal.
Frazer Hewkin, Jake Bunten, Daniel Ayms and Tom
Molyneux were looking good in defence, until a
great turn and finish from inside the Brandon
box saw Mattishall 2 - 0 up. Performance of the
day came from Jake Silverwood, running himself
into the ground in midfield. As Brandon heads
dropped 'The Lads' found themselves pegged back,
conceding a late third to finish them off. A
well fought contest, Brandon needing some
luck soon to put the season on track.
MOM - Tom Deacon-Davey.
Sunday 27 Jan
2008 Toftwood 2 Brandon Lads 1
Brandon set off with high hopes of a win against
the team just above them, this their first league match
of the new year. The match swung from end to end for the
first 15 minutes, both teams creating chances. The Lads
should have been awarded a penalty when Tom Deacon-
Davey burst through, only to be pulled down in the box.
Brandon were then caught out, when their own attack down
the right broke down. Toftwood won the ball, played a
neat pass through the Brandon defence and slotted well
past Callum Powell in goal. Brandon battled for the
equaliser, having the best of the first half, Louis
Ramage shooting just wide and Deacon Davey using his
pace to go through the Toftwood defence, only to go
wide. With Brandon pressing, Jake Silverwood ran in on
goal, yet was obviously shoved over in the box. Brandon
appealed but no penalty again. Powell made a great save
from an in swinging clearance, to avoid a 'stylish' own
goal. Second half the lads lost a little focus as
nothing was given their way, yet a great burst down the
right and blistering shot from Deacon- Davey levelled
the score at 1 - 1. Brandon pushed for the win, trying
to keep clear heads despite another clear penalty shout
for hand ball going unseen. The back four of Frazer
Hewkin, Jake Bunten, Tom Molyneux and Daniel Aymes were
throwing themselves into everything, feeding some fine
balls wide for Matt Molyneux and Preston Sharpe to cross
from the wings. Silverwood and Jordan Hewitt were
battling hard in midfield, Freddie Cunningham, Luke King
and Dan Field all coming on with fresh legs to play
their part. With minutes to go Sharpe was unlucky to
shoot over from close range, Matt Molyneux then broke
through the Toftwood defence and beat the keeper with a
great strike, only to see the chance come back off the
post. It was going to be one of those days. Despite at
least three good shouts for a Brandon penalty going
unpunished, a Toftwood player went over in the lads box
and a penalty given. The Toftwood forward tucked it away
nicely and the game was lost for Brandon. A good,
battling and pretty even match between the two teams,
well done to both sets of players.

Thetford magpies 10 Brandon Lads 1
Knock out cup semi final first leg
The Lads
started quite well against a strong and quick Magpies
team. Some good early defending from Brandon kept the
score even for the first 15 minutes, yet when Thetford
Magpies eventually scored, the floodgates opened. A
combination of poor midfield desire, poor defending and
heads quickly dropping, saw Thetford score seven goals
within a 20 minute spell. Brandon were shell shocked at
half time, yet put in a better show 2nd half. Decent
overall performances Deacon-Davey and Hewkin, yet too
many Brandon players just didn't want to battle and
tackle. Thetford scored twice more before Preston Sharpe
played a fine ball through for Matt Molyneux to drive
onto. Matt slid a lovely ball through for Jake
Silverwood to beat the defender and shoot for goal. The
Magpies keeper made a fine block, only for Jake to pass
the deflection past him and into the net. Some poor
defending from a late corner saw Thetford score their
10th goal, Brandon well beaten on the day.
Sunday 2 Dec 2007
Litcham 5 Brandon Lads 1
Brandon started in
positive mood, playing some decent football with
the wind in their backs. Litcham were first to
strike though, with a poor Brandon clearance
being pounced on for 1 - 0. Litcham scored a
brilliant second minutes later, their winger
going past three players before firing into the
far corner. Brandon pulled one back after a fine
move saw the ball played over for Louis Ramage
to chip the Litcham keeper for 2 - 1. The Lads
were pushing forward for an equaliser, only to
be caught with a third Litcham goal before half
time. Keeper, Callum Powell pulled off two fine
saves before being replaced after a head injury.
Jake Silverwood went from midfield into goal and
put in great effort to the claim Man of the
Match award. Matt Molyneux saw his glancing
header go wide, Ramage went wide with another
good strike, but it wasn't to be 'The Lads' day.
As Brandon tired and lost shape Litcham scored
twice more. This was despite great goal line
clearances from Tom Molyneux and Dan Field.
Another good performance from Frazer Hewkin, who
also came off late on due to injury.

Brandon Lads 3 Morley 5
The first home game for
Brandon u14s was full of goals, despite some
excellent saves from both keepers. 'The Lads'
started lively enough, Rob Barrett using skill,
playing in Matt Molyneux to turn and fire into the
Morley keepers hands, Morley then punished some slow
reactions with a fine goal. Brandon equalised with
Fraser Hewkin putting in a superb free kick for
Louis Ramage to head home with power. Tom Deacon-Davey
thought he'd scored after a fine run down the wing,
his blistering shot coming back off the angle. 'The
Lads' won another free kick, Josh Morter heading
home, yet off side was given. Brandon should have
been 3 - 1 up, were looking good going forward, yet
vulnerable at the back due to the pacey Morley
forwards. With two sweeping moves Morley flew down
the right and scored two quick goals. This rocked
Brandon, with the lads falling 4 - 1 behind after a
trip in the box was punished by a penalty. Preston
Sharpe almost pulled one back, some excellent play
ending with a firm header, just wide. Brandon
battled back second half, coming close through
Ramage, yet still managed to fall 5 - 1 behind after
a goal mouth scramble. 'The Lads' were not finished,
Deacon-Davey went on another swift run through the
defence, passing through for Josh Morter to hit a
great shot, the keeper made a save, only for Deacon-Davey
to blast in from close range, for 5 - 2. Callum
Powell had to make two fine saves to keep a
respectable scoreline, Jake Bunten, Tom Molyneux,
Daniel Aymes, Jake Silverwood and Daniel Field all
battling to win every tackle and help feed the
forwards. Eventually Brandon got a deserved third,
Matt Molyneux taking his chance, beating the keeper
with a superb left foot strike. Best outfield
performance from Fraser Hewkin, Man of the Match
awarded to Callum Powell for superb keeping.

Thetford Magpies 3 Brandon Lads 0
The Lads started well against the league leaders, with
new signing, Louis Ramage, early into action with his
fine strike going just wide. Brandon were closing down
well, Daniel Aymes, Tom Molyneux, Fraser Hewkin and Jake
Bunten doing brilliantly in defence to keep a strong
Thetford at bay. Some superb play from Aymes sent
Preston Sharpe through on the break, again unluckily for
Brandon his shot went wide. The lads had a third chance
on goal within minutes, Hewkin putting through a great
free kick for Josh Morter to again fire just wide.
Brandon were starting to wonder what they needed to do
to score, having the better chances, yet Thetford were
quick down the flanks and dangerous with each attack.
Thetford Magpies broke the deadlock just before half
time, a goal mouth scramble saw Bunten attempt to clear
off his line, unlucky to see the ball spin inside the
post. Second half Brandon still felt very much in the
game, a lovely bit off passing play from Ramage and
Morter playing in Matt Molyneux to once again shoot
wide. The Lads had done all but score and as they tired
Thetford punished them with two well struck efforts. It
could have finished with Magpies netting more, yet Callum
Powell was once again in fine form, awarded man of
the match for the third time in four games.
Outstanding performances from Daniel Aymes and Fraser
Hewkin made them serious
contenders though, in Brandon's best team game yet.

Swaffham 1 Brandon Lads 1
Brandon were slow to start, feeling their way into what
turned out to be an evenly fought, entertaining, end to
end match. Swaffham edged the first half, taking the
lead with a fine, dipping strike from distance. Despite
this some fine saves from Callum Powell offered
confidence to the hard working Brandon defence. Josh
Morter should have equalized for Brandon, beating the
keeper but firing over the bar. Some great defending
from Daniel Aymes, Freddie Cunningham, Frazer Hewkin and
Tom Molyneux meant Brandon were dealing with the
Swaffham forwards, yet Brandon were missing chances up
front. At 1 - 0 down Brandon knew the second half had to
be theirs. The Lads came out strongly from the kick off,
creating more chances and forcing errors. Matt Molyneux,
Rob Barrett, Jordan Hewitt and Preston Sharpe were
working tirelessly in midfield, playing some quality
passes for Tom Deacon-Davey and Morter to burst through
with. The Lads were getting the upper hand, yet there
was always the danger of going two down with a slip of
focus. The Lads eventually got a deserved equalizer,
Molyneux playing through for Morter to take wide, a
great pass let Deacon-Davey turn his man and fire low
into the goal for 1 - 1. The game was on a knife edge
for the last ten minutes, with both teams looking to
steal the points. Brandon should have snatched it late
on, Sharpe played well to get in on goal,
yet blasted over from close range. All round probably a
fair result, both teams playing good football on the
day.

Sunday 21 Oct 2007 New
Buckenham 4 Brandon lads 1
Brandon started slowly, finding themselves nervously on
the back foot. New Buckenham took the lead, striking the
ball across the goal and seeing a deflection come off
Tom Molyneux for an unlucky own goal. Brandon rallied
though, some great play from Preston Sharpe on the
right, playing Tom Deacon-Davey through for a fierce
shot on goal. The New Buckenham keeper made a fine first
save, the loose ball won though by Josh Morter
who slotted home with style. Brandon came close to a
second when Deacon-Davey flew past the Buckenham defence
but shot wide. New Buckenham were then awarded a penalty
for hand ball, saved brilliantly by an impressive Callum
Powell. Frazer Hewkin and Tom Molyneux both made crucial
last moment tackles to keep things all square, yet a
long range dipping effort gave Powell no chance and put
Brandon 2 - 1 down at half time. Powell made two fine
further stops to keep things close, with Jake Silverwood
and Rob Barrett both coming on to change the midfield.
A hard working Matt Molyneux and Deacon- Davey made fine
runs down the wings, putting in some good balls, yet New
Buckenham defended well. Freddie Cunningham and Jake
Bunten were growing into the game, better quality
defending keeping the game on a knife edge. With Brandon
pushing for an equaliser, New Buckenham took advantage
of some loose passing to break and score two more well
struck goals. The Lads should feel proud of their
efforts, yet will need to work on their passing and
movement off the ball to improve their shooting chances.

Mattishall 6 Brandon Lads 0
This first game ever for our newly formed
team ended in bitter disappointment despite some
decent performances and excellent saves from
goalkeeper, and man of the match, Callum Powell.
Mattishall were well organized and at times just too
quick for the Brandon defence. Brandon were 3 - 0
down by half time, yet started to play better once
the game was lost. Some hard work and good
commitment from Frazer Hewkin, Daniel Field and
Preston Sharpe deserve a mention, yet too many
players were showing a lack of both match experience
and commitment to win the ball. Mattishall added
three more second half goals, Brandon coming closest
to a reply when Sharpe played through for Matt
Molyneux to strike a dipping shot over the bar.
