Knock-Out Cup Final

30th April 2006

Brandon 2-1 Achilles
Brandon went into this game in good form and started really brightly. they started their passing game from the off and Walters and Wilcox were dominating the early exchanges. Beard and F.Joe were causing the back 5 of Achilles trouble. With some great interchange play down the left from Lines and Last came Brandon first change, they got the ball to Beard who fired his shot against the post, more chances came and went and Bick was putting in some really nice crosses and the Achilles keeper did well to save or counter act them. Achilles looked dangerous on the break and with their long ball tactics caused the defence of Day, Sanders, Heally and Last problems. From another Brandon attack saw the sucker punch that Achilles were playing for, the keeper saved a shot pumped the ball up field, the Brandon defence allowed the ball to bounce and the very quick striker coolly beat the on rushing keeper to make it 1-0. This goal did not stop the Brandon team playing football the way it should be and they carried on with total dominance of this game, more chances game but the goal just would not come.
The second half started as the first finished with Brandon playing some great football and Achilles with nearly all players back to hope they could hang onto this lead. Beard came close again but hit his shot wide. Bick hit another fantastic cross and Last game rushing in from the back post and with a diving header and somehow the keeper managed to save that. Brandon were confident and there passing and moving football was a delight to watch for the crowed of over 100 people. Mid way into the second half and Brandon received yet another corner, with Walters and Bicks quick thinking for a short corner, Walter gave the ball to Bick, Walters then did an over lap Bick gave the ball back and Walters on his left curled the ball into the top corner, the crowed were delighted and Brandon were level. Total dominance was the order now and once again chances were coming in. The introduction of Thompson for Heally was an attacking move and it paid of. Brandon received a free kick just inside the Achilles half, Sanders hit a lovely ball Thompson flicked on and F.Joe hit a great volley into the bottom corner to make it 2-1. Brandon were still dominant and Thompson could have doubled the lead a couple of times, first he hit a 20yrd shot that just scrapped the post, then he hit another just wide. With minutes to go Brandon pulled the captain back to play along side Sanders and Achilles did cause a little pressure but Gathercloe was ready for any long ball and collected them well. The final whistle went and Brandon were once again KO Cup winners for the second year running.
Well, done to the boys and it was a great display for both sets of fans on how football should be played.

9th April 2006

Newbury 1 Brandon 4
Brandon travelled to Newbury knowing that not only a win will do but a good goal tally was needed. Brandon started well but decisions from the referee were not going for them. Newbury took the lead from a long ball over the top and the striker finished well. Brandon seemed to struggle on a full size men's pitch and looked lost at times as there pass and move game could not be used on such a huge pitch. They started to settle and should have had a penalty when Walters made a great run with the ball, Beat two players and was then pulled back in the box but the referee decided that it was a good challenge. Beard was released and the keeper did well to save at his feet. Brandon levelled just before half time when beard fired home from a tight angle.
The second half started as the first finished with Brandon playing all the football and Newbury playing the long ball game. Early on in the second half and Thompson received the ball on the edge of the box to be completely taken out by a Newbury player but the referee gave a drop ball. This spurred on the boys and they soon took the lead when F.Joe kept the ball in play passed to Walters who scored only for the referee to give a goal kick. Brandon rallied and soon took the lead when Beard received the ball down the right, beat a player cut inside and smashed the ball home with a great strike. Brandon knowing that they needed goals pilled on the pressure.  A long ball over the top put F. Joe through and he coolly finished only for the linesman to flag for offside. Brandon were then rewarded a free kick out side the box, up popped Sanders who fired a good shot into the top corner 3-1. With a few minutes to go Beard was put through again and finished well for his hatrick.

This was the last league game of the season and Brandon know that they have performed well this season, with results in, and Wethersfield's game going against them they have received the runner up medals this season, our congratulations go out to Withersfield who are worthy champions and we wish them the best of luck. Good luck to Brandon who still have 2 cup finals to play this season and hope that they can bring back the trophies that they deserve

8th April 2006

Brandon Lads 1  Withersfield 0
Brandon entertained Withersfield knowing that only a win would do to keep their hopes of winning the league alive. Brandon started well and dominated early proceedings. Wilcox in a changed position of wide on the right was causing all sorts of problems, The midfield of Thompson and Walters were dominating. Few chances were created buy both teams and the game looked very cagey with both teams knowing that one mistake could cost them. Brandon did come close with Beard and F. Joe both having chances but could not finish.
Brandon came out in the second half knowing that they needed to score, they started very well and created a lot of half chances. Beard came close but his effort well saved by the keeper. Withersfield looked very dangerous on the break and they should have opened the scoring but the forward pulled his shot wide. Brandon then had the ball down the left, Lines passed to Beard who the hit a good cross in for Last to power the ball home. This seemed to open the flood gates and Beard should have doubled the lead but the keeper saved well from a 1v1. F. Joe then had a great chance to double the lead but once again the keeper saved well. More chances were created but that extra goal would not come.

The league title would now be decided on the last game of the season, with both teams equal on points and the same goal difference it is the team who can win by the most will win the league.

Withersfield Colts 1 Brandon 1 (4-3 Penalties)
Brandon went into this game full of confidence after their great result last week. Brandon started well and were on top for the first 15mins. With some slick play from the midfield Brandon created some good chances and could have taken the lead early on. Mid way through the half Brandon earned a corner Walters hit a nice cross in the ball bounced through to Bick who coolly finished. This saw the end of Wilcox's game due to an injury, Withersfield then had some good possession but the defence of Day, Sanders, Healy and Last mopped up any attack.
The second started with Withersfield on top, Brandon could not get their passing game together and Withersfield did look dangerous. Not many chances were created and Brandon had to result to hitting the home team on the break, their best chance fell to F.Joe who found him self clear on the right only to miss control the ball and allow the defence to cover up. With only half chances created by both team it looked like Brandon would secure their 3rd Cup final of the season. With normal time gone and a lot of injury time played Withersfield earned a corner, with a good ball in the forward was left unmarked to hit a good header home.
Extra time it was and Brandon started well creating half chances but it was an even first half. The second period of extra time and Withersfield piled on the pressure, they first hit the bar from a good shot, then Gathercole who was not needed for the first 60mins then kept Brandon in the game with 2 top rate saves. The game ended 1-1 Penalties was to come. Brandon were first and Thompson hit the post, Withersfied scored, Then it was Beard who had a good shot saved well. Withersfield scored the second, up came Bick who hit the bar and then the Withersfied players scored to put them into the final.

This was a good game and on a true reflection Withersfield deserved to go through, Brandon play them again on saturday and a win will ensure that the league goes to the final day of the season. Well done to the boys and on another could have gone through, best of luck to Withersfield in the final.

Brandon Lads 8  Newbury 1
Brandon started brightly and were
dominating the early exchanges, with some nice passing and moving down both flanks. Early chances from Wilcox, Beard and F.Joe were either well saved or missed. The defence of Sanders, Day, Haley and Last were playing well and stopping any attack that Newbury had. Mid way through the half and F.Joe was put through and he beat the keeper. Some good work down the left from Lines and some good hassle from Beard saw the ball break to Wilcox who pulled it back to F.Joe who fired the ball into the top corner. Newbury pulled a goal from a great volley hit outside the box and left Gathercole no chance.  half time 2-1
Brandon started the second half knowing that not did they need to win but also needed to add to their goal talley if they were to defend their league title. Early in the half the ball fell to beard who raced through and hit a low shot and F.Joe powered the ball home for his 3rd. Straight from the kick off Brandon won the ball back and Walters was put through to hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. Brandon were now on fire and Beard took over the game, He picked up the ball from the half way line and raced through to coolly beat the keeper. He soon added his second when Walters put him clean through to score. His 3rd came from the spot when a shot from Last was handled. His 4th and probably the best goal of the day came from some great passing from all over the pitch, F.joe passed to Beard on the edge of the box who then hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner. This passage of 20mins was the best the boys have played for a very long and they look like they have come into form at the right time with 2 cup finals and a semi final coming up.

Thetford Independents 1  Brandon Lads 3
Brandon went into this rearranged fixture knowing that only a win will do if they were to catch league leaders Withersfield. They started brightly and enjoyed the majority of the possession. Walters and Wilcox were strong in midfield and the defence was solid. Walters came close with a long range shot which was well saved. Late on in the half Wilcox put a ball over the top into the corner for Beard to chase, the keeper came out and cleared the ball but the on rushing Beard managed to block the clearance and coolly finished from long range.

The second half started well for Brandon and they quickly doubled the lead when F.Joe was put through and finished well. Indies had a few long range efforts but Gathercole did well. Beard added his second when he was put through again from Wilcox and he slotted the ball past the on rushing keeper. Brandon then missed a few chances and Indies did pull a goal back when a defensive error allowed the striker to finish. More chances were created but the score remained 3-1. Not the best performance but a much needed 3 points.

OPEN CUP - SEMI FINAL

19th March 2006

Brandon Lads 2 Gorleston FC 2  (Brandon win 5-4 penalties aet)
Brandon went into this semi final game low on confidence due to some poor results. From the kick off Brandon were under pressure and with some poor defending found themselves 1 down after some poor defending. The long ball over the top caught Sanders and his defence napping and the Gorleston striker coolly beat Gathercole in the goal. This woke Brandon up and for the rest of the half they dominated the game. Within 10 mins of conceding a goal Brandon were on level terms when F. Joe beat The Gorleston defence and raced through to beat the keeper. Chances went begging for Brandon and should have taken the lead when F. Joe was put through again only for the keeper to make a great save. Gorleston then took the lead again through a penalty, which was given much to the dismay of the home team.
The second half started as the first finished with Brandon on top of the game, Wilcox and Walters were dominant in midfield and F. Joe and Beard were causing all sorts of trouble up front. Brandon came close to level the game when beard had a good shot saved, F. Joe then came close but the keeper did well again. The defence of Day, Sanders and Last coped well with the pace of the attackers.  Mid way trough the half Brandon played some nice football and F. Joe put Beard clean through who hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. Brandon then played some really good football and were unlucky not to take the lead when Thompson hit the bar from a great header. The final 10 mins were played in the Gorleston half but Brandon could not find that finishing touch.
The game then went into extra time and Brandon were on top for the whole 20mins. with chances being created but the finishing touch was not there. Credit must go the opposition team as they never gave up, Thompson could have sealed the game when he hit wide from close range.  After the final score the game went to penalties, Gorleston were up first and coolly slotted home, next up was Thompson for Brandon who coolly put the ball out of reach into the top corner. Gorleston then converted their second pen, up popped Beard who riffled the ball into the bottom left for Brandon. Gorleston then converted their 3rd and gave Gathercole no chance. Bick then stepped up for Brandon and scored. Then it was time for the nerves of players to hold, up popped the Gorleston player who his shot against the bar. Sanders was then given the opportunity to give Brandon the upper hand and he coolly sent the keeper the wrong way. The Gorleston then had to score to keep his team in the game, he coolly beat the keeper and put his shot into the top corner. Walters was left to put Brandon into the final, he stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong to put Brandon into the Open cup final for the second year running.  Credit must go to both teams for a great semi and it was a good performance from the Brandon side, but in the end the better team won the game and we hope that this year the boys can bring the title home.  Final score 2-2 Brandon win 5-4 0n Penalties

League

5th March 2006

Brandon Lads 2 Thetford Independents 0
Brandon started this game knowing that only a win will do if they are to compete and defend their title this year. Indies started well and played like they wanted revenge for the 2 cup defeats by Brandon. The first half was a scrappy affair with Indies on top for the majority and thanks to Gathercole for 2 great saves from what seemed to be  certain goals. Brandon did create a couple of good chances and when Bick crossed for Last to head home it seemed harder to miss than to score but the header went over the bar.
The second half started much better for Brandon and they managed to get their foot on the ball, Wilcox and Walters were stronger in the tackles and the forwards held the ball up much better. With a ball over the top and a great flick on by Beard saw F. Joe clear for a 1v1 and he did the business and finished well to take it 1-0. Indies hit back strong and could have levelled but Gathercloe made another great save. the lads then rallied and Lines was playing some nice easy simple passes for the forwards, Sanders was dominant in the defence as always and seem to distribute the ball well when he stopped an Indies attack. Mid way through the half and Last dribbled his way through the defence only to be denied by a good save from the keeper. Last got his rewards when a good ball over the top and an Indies defender headed it  against his own cross bar for him to the take it around the keeper and blast the ball home from close range. Indies had a few half chances but the back line of Day, Sanders and Haley stood firm.
This was not the best performance from the boys and Indies will feal hard done not to take something from this game. with players recovering from illness and boys due back, the next 2 games are vital for the season with a trip to Withersfield for the league cup semi and then the visit of Gorleston for the open cup semi.

Hadleigh 1  Brandon Lads 5
Brandon travelled to Hadleigh with only 10 players, they started well and dominated the game. Sanders hit a 25yrd free kick that cannoned of the cross bar, Wilcox and Thompson dominated the midfield. Brandon created many chances but every shot seemed to be hit straight at the keeper. Line did well down the left and linked up well with the forwards. F.Joe hit a great shot against the bar and Wilcox hit a 20yrd shot the also cannoned of the woodwork. Brandon did take the lead late on from a good shot from lines that went into the top corner.

The second half started as the first finished and Brandon soon doubled the lead from a cool finish from Beard. Lines added his second from a good cross and a good header. Like in the first half Brandon created loads of chances but seemed to rush the final touch and the shots were hit at the keeper. Brandon were awarded a penalty but Sanders shot was well saved by the keeper. Hadleigh pulled a goal back when a long ball over the top and some confusion between Sanders and Gathercole and Sanders hit the ball into his own net. Brandon soon resumed the 3 goal advantage from a great individual goal from F.Joe and he soon added his second from another great solo run. Brandon still created loads of chances but the score remained 5-1.  This was a good performance from 10 players but Brandon must convert their chances if they are to retain their title and catch run away leaders of the league Withersfield.

Needham Mkt 0  Brandon Lads 5
Brandon travelled to Needham know that they had secured their place in the semi final. They started in a bright mood and came close just after 5 mins when F. Joe danced around the defence only to hit a tame shot at the keeper. Needham looked busy and hassled Brandon at all time. Brandon dominated the game and came close again when Beard hit a good shot and the keeper did well to save. Brandon seemed to do things right until the final touch and they came close again but the defence from Needham managed to clear the ball. Walters and Wilcox kept the tempo up but the telling pass from the midfield was missing. Half way into the half Walters hit a lovely cross and Last was there to tap in from close range. The remainder of the half was a scrappy one with Brandon dominating in possession but not creating a decent chance.
Brandon started the second half and welcomed back to the squad Day from illness, they came out well in the second and were quickly on the attack, F.Joe beat 3 players down the right and fired his shot just wide of the goal. Brandon's passing was now telling and they were creating some great chances but the finishing was missing. After 10mins of the second half Brandon increased their lead with a great goal from F. Joe. Beard then extended the lead with his hardest chance of the game. Brandon now were playing like they used to and were more relaxed in their passing, F. Joe came close again, Walters had a good shot saved from long range. Beard was dangerous when he went down the left. The 5th and final goal came from the ever running Last who chipped the keeper well. Thompson hit the post late on. The defence of Sanders, Day and Haley played well throughout.

Achilles 4  Brandon Lads 3
Brandon travelled to Ipswich with the bare 11 as they had some players missing. Brandon started well and dominated the first half. Last was outstanding down the left and Beard was causing them loads of problems up front. Brandon took the lead after ten minutes when F.Joe beat two players and coolly slotted the ball home. They increased their lead when Thompson powered home from close range. More chances were created but the defence of Achilles held firm. Just before the break Thompson made it 3-0.
Brandon came out in the second half asleep, the Achilles striking was causing all sorts of problems down their right side. They pulled a goal back from a long ball over the top and the striker finished well. This panicked Brandon and they quickly conceded another, another long ball over the top and it was 2-3. Brandon now had a game on their hands and were creating half chances, Bick did well down the right but the cross could not be converted. Brandon were on the attack and they were caught with a sucker punch, another long ball over the top and it was 3-3. By now the boys were trying to rally together but it just would not come off for them, everything they tried just did not work. Then the impossible happened, another Brandon attack was cancelled out and it was 4v3, a long ball over the top again and the Achilles striker finished well by lobbing the keeper.  This was a game of two halves, Brandon dominated the first but credit to the opposition who worked out how to play against Brandon and did it well. On another day a few chances would have gone in and Brandon would have came away with the win.

Open Cup

5th February 2006

Brandon Lads 1  Newbury 0
Brandon started this game slowly and took a long time to settle into it. The visitors started well and with their commitment and determination seemed to put Brandon off their passing game. the first chance fell to Brandon and F. Joe did well to create the chance but put his shot wide. Newbury seemed to win all the 50-50 challenges and put Brandon under consistent pressure with their closing down. Brandon did at times show what they are capable of and put some nice passes together to create half chances but the keeper did well to save. Up the other end Brandon were not troubled by Newbury and Gathercole mopped up all their long through balls. Beard came close with a 1v1 but the keeper did well to save.
The second half started and Brandon seemed more committed to the game and were causing problems down the left flank. Early on in the second half Beard collected the ball down the left and beat a couple of players and had a good shot saved. Newbury then conceded a throw-in on the left, Last through the ball to Lines who flicked it onto F.Joe who then passed to Bick who put the ball into an empty net. This settled Brandon and they could have doubled the lead only for Bick to fire straight at the keeper. Newbury were very committed throughout the game and they seemed to put Brandon off at any chance possible with their hard tackling and constant pressure. The visitors came close when a long ball over the top found their striker who shot well but the ever reliable Gathercole saved as if it was a bread and butter save. more chances were created and the midfield of Wilcox and Walters worked hard throughout the game. Chances were created by both sides but in the end the quality of Brandon's football came through.

22nd January 2006

Brandon Lads 2  Bury Town 0
Brandon started this game in a confident mood, with some slick passing they soon took the lead through a F.Joe goal. After the goal Brandon settled well and created some good chances. Thompson had a clear chance only to be denied by some good goal keeping. Walters and Wilcox were dominant in midfield as always. Mid way through the first half Lines got the ball down the left had some great interlink play with Last and put the ball across the goal and bick volleyed from close range and the keeper pulled of a great save. Bury were a very busy side and upset Brandon's play on a number of occasions. The defence of Last, Sanders and Day was solid as always. Many chances in the half were created but not converted.
The second half started as the first finished with Brandon camped into the Bury half. with some nice football played Beard came close but once again the Bury keeper saved well. Bick came close again with a one v one but the keeper did well to save at his feet. There was many long range efforts from Walters and Wilcox but once again the keeper could not be beat. Mid way through the half Bick was fouled out side the box, up popped Sanders to rifle the free kick home. This settled Brandon and at times the passing was excellent but the finishing touch was not there. Beard came close again but the keeper tipped the shot over the bar. Sanders seemed to cut out anything that bury had to offer when they came forward and his distribution was excellent to set up another attack. Bury had a great shot late on which Gathercole managed to get a finger to and tip it over the bar.  This was a good performance from Brandon and with chances created they could have had double figures. Bury have to be congratulated on their hard work and commitment throughout the game. This is the first cup final reached of the season for the boys and hopefully they will defend their trophy in may.

OPEN CUP

8th January 2006

Waveney Youth 0  Brandon Lads 12  -  Open Cup
Brandon started brightly and soon went ahead from a great strike by Beard who coolly lobbed the keeper. He soon added his second with only 5mins gone on the clock. With the Waveney defence keeping a high line and Brandon playing some nice one touch football it was not long before they added the third. F. Joe coolly latching onto a through ball from Wilcox and rounded the keeper. He added his second after Beard once again lobbed the keeper for it to hit the post and F. Joe followed up for a tap in. Brandon were causing Waveney all sorts of problems with their good movement and passing. Last playing in his new position of left defence had a great game and was the start from most of the attacks. Sanders controlled the defence and was strong throughout in his new position of central defender. Brandon added a 5th before the break with a good finish from Lines.
Brandon started the second half as they finished the first and they extended the lead from the kick off, F.Joe hit a great strike to beat the keeper. Beard added another 2. Brandon then swapped the team about and Gathercole came out of goal and into the midfield. Sanders went between the sticks, Day was pushed into midfield and Last took up a position behind the front 2. This saw the introduction of Haley and Cromie in the defence who were solid as normal.  Thompson soon got onto the score sheet with a great strike, Walters got hid reward for his endless running with a power strike to beat the keeper.  Bick was ever reliable down the right and provided some decent crosses for the strikers. Last got onto the score sheet with a great individual run and rounded the keeper for a great finish. With 5 mins to go Brandon were given a free kick just outside the box, up popped Gathercole who hit a great strike, which was headed off the line. Day got his first goal for Brandon with a simple tap in after great work from Walters.  This was a good all round performance, with 5 goals being disallowed for dubious offside decisions and with players in new positions it was a solid game from the team.

The lads would like to congratulate Isaac Jagroop who is on a six week trial with Ipswich academy and they wish him all the success.

Brandon started this Quarter Final of the KO cup with high spirits. After some poor performances Brandon knew they had to turn on the style to beat a good Thetford side and they started really well and dominated the game. Last came close early on but saw his shot deflect of a Brandon player on the Indies line to stop the first goal. Brandon were playing some lovely one touch play and with the wide players of Bick and Lines keeping wide Brandon enjoyed space to be able to pass the ball. The first came after 15 minutes with a great shot from Bick that hit the post only for last to power the ball over the from the rebound. This inspired Brandon and Walters then hit the bar from out side the box. Indies looked very dangerous on the break and Gathercole saved well at the feet of the Indies striker. From an Indies free kick deep inside the Brandon half saw Walter score a great goal, the free kick fell to Wilcox, he passed the ball to Walters who run the full length of the pitch with the Indies defence dropping off and scored a rifle of a shot into the far corner of the goal. Brandon still created good chances but failed to score.  Half time Brandon 2-0 Indies.
The second half started as the first finished with Brandon dominating the game, it was not long before the extended the lead, Wilcox put a great cross in for Beard to score with a great header. The movement of the front 2 of Beard and F.Joe was brilliant and this aloud the midfield to be involved around the Indies box. F.Joe played a lovely pass to Walters and he fired in a great shot to make it 4-0. Brandon then introduced Thompson and he scored 2 great goals and was involved in some great Brandon play. Indies did score a late goal to make it 6-1. The defence of Sanders, Jagroop and Day was instrumental in mopping up all that Indies had to offer. F.Joe finally got the goal that he deserved from his hard work to make the score 7-1.
This is the first game this season that Brandon have played the way they can and hopefully this means many more performances like this will follow.

Brandon 6  Hadleigh 2
Brandon started this game as they have the last 3 very slowly and found themselves 1-0 down again. Brandon then came out and started to play some decent football and were back on level terms after a great strike from Beard. Brandon then came close with a long range effort from Sanders which the keeper did well to push over the bar. Brandon did extend the lead from a good volley from outside the box by Wilcox. Brandon were now dominating the game and scored another when Thompson was brought down inside the box. Sanders coolly converted the spot kick. Brandon continued to dominate the game and created many chances only to be denied by some good goal keeping.

The second half started as the first finished with Brandon dominating, even with the domination Brandon were still not playing as everyone knows they can. It was not long before they extended the lead when Beard made a great run down the left and fired a good low and hard shot which beat the Hadleigh keeper to make it 4-1. Chances were being created from the midfield trio of Walters, Wilcox and Bick and Sanders hit the cross bar with another good long range effort. The 5th came from a good passage of passing and Walters fired home from the edge of the box. Hadleigh were causing Brandon trouble on the break but the defence held strong. The 6th goal came from good build up play down the left by Lines, and Beard fired in a low cross for Last to convert. Brandon were still creating good chances but could not find the telling touch. Hadleigh pulled a goal back late on in the half to make the final score 6-2. In all not the best performance but a convincing win and with key players coming back into the squad for next weeks KO cup quarter final game we are sure that they will be back to their best.

League Cup

27th November 2005

Thetford Independent 2  Brandon Lads 3
Brandon went into this league cup game knowing a win was vital if they were going to defend their title. Both teams started positively and Indies seem to win all the 50-50 challenges.  It was an open game with both teams creating good chances. Indies took the lead from a good through ball to the right and the Indies player rifled a shot into the Brandon goal. Brandon restarted but as like last week could not seem to settle and made a lot mistakes. Just before the half F. Joe picked up the ball inside his own half, ran with it towards goal and beat 3 of the Indies players and got a good shot off only for the Indies keeper to pull of a good save. Brandon then seemed to settle down and were unlucky not to level when a good corner from Sanders was headed over from Thompson. With Last and Lines working hard down the flanks Brandon were creating some good half chances but could not find that telling pass.
The second half started much more positive for Brandon and they seemed to be able to pass the ball more confidently, with Sanders holding well in midfield this left Walters to set up the attacking plays. The second half saw the introduction of Bick for his first game for the club and he did not take long to settle down, He received the ball from Sanders played a lovely pass into F.Joe who laid it off to Walters on the edge of the box and he hit an unstoppable shot into the top left hand corner of the goal.  Beard and F.Joe were causing the Indies defence all sorts of problems with their pace and it was not long before Brandon took the lead. Walter picked up the ball beat the Indies player to put the ball onto his left and he hit another 25yrd shot onto the top corner. Now Brandon took the lead they did not look back, with the defence of Day, Jargroop and Cromie dealing with Indies through balls and Sanders just in front Brandon were dominating and they scored another goal with some good passing and a super cross from Bick for F. Joe to beat the keeper on the near post. Brandon created more good chances and Beard was unlucky not to get on the score sheet for his hard work. Indies did manage to pull a goal back with some good work down the right and a good cross for the striker to beat Gathercole from close range.

Withersfield 2  Brandon Lads 2
Brandon travelled to Withersfield knowing that a good performance was needed. Withersfield started the better of the two teams and took the lead from a great shot which flew over Gathercole's head. Brandon then started to settle down but were still not convincing with their passing, they seemed to lack the confidence to get the ball down and play. pressure started to mount on the Withersfield defence and a good ball through from Walters put F.Joe in who cooly lobbed the on coming keeper. With both teams unable to get the ball down and play their passing games it seemed very scrappy at times. Brandon took the lead from a Sanders free kick that was well  saved only for Walters to poke in the rebound.
The second half started as the first finished with neither team getting their foot on the ball. not many chances were created by either team and possession was wasted, Mid way through the second half a Withersfield player pumped the ball in the air for what seemed to be a bread and butter catch for Gathercole only for him to miss read the flight and it bounced off his  chest and into his own net. Brandon did put some good through balls through for the forwards only for the Withersfield keeper to come out well and clear his lines and stop perhaps clear goals. All in all a bad performance from both teams and 2 points given away, but with Withersfield being the closest challengers to take Brandon's title a away draw is not such a bad result.

Brandon Lads 5  Newbury 3 (KO cup round 1)
Brandon started this game very badly having only played two games so far this season and found themselves 2-0 down for the first time ever after five minutes.  Newbury took the lead with a well taken effort and then extended it with a shot that took a deflection of the Brandon defence.  Brandon had to rally themselves together and showed a good team spirit, they then took control of the game and created chance after chance only to be denied by either the keeper or the woodwork.
The second half started as the first finished with Brandon camped in the Newbury half.  This time though the good pressure paid off when Sanders floated a lovely corner for Walter to power home a header.  This seemed to spur Brandon on more and soon leveled the game when F.Joe rounded the keeper to slot home from a tight angle. With chances still going begging it took a great long range effort from Beard to finally put Brandon into the lead.  With some good football played Brandon were hit on the break and conceded a foul 30 yards out, up popped the Newbury player to rifle a very good free kick into the roof of the net.  With Last and Lines working hard down the flanks and Walter and Wilcox dominating the midfield it did not take long for Brandon to retake the lead.  Walters got the ball on the edge of the area and hit a shot that was deflected in the Newbury goal.  Brandon extended their lead when a good shot from beard was well saved and F.Joe followed up to tap in. Brandon could have scored more goals but for some good goal keeping the score remained 5-3.
A good performance all round by all the players and they showed great team spirit to come from 2-0 down for the first time ever.  It was another day of missed chances and hopefully with a full fixture list now they can get some consistency in their play.

Brandon Lads 3  Achillies 1
Brandon started this game brightly and with their sternest test to date had to put in a good performance, the game in the first half was a good competitive game, Brandon had the majority of possession and created the better chances but Achilles were very dangerous when they had the ball. With some excellent play from Last down the left hand side and some good link up play from the forward line of Beard and F. Joe chances were coming, Beard coming close on a couple of occasions. With Wilcox back in the centre of midfield and the ever reliable  Lines on the right hand side Brandon were playing some nice football. Brandon finally Broke the deadlock when F. Joe was put through by Beard he coolly rounded the keeper and slotted home. If not for the good work from the Achilles keeper it could have been more.
The second half saw the introduction of Walters back from his break in Florida, he was instrumental from the off, Brandon seemed to have settled down after the weeks of no games and it was not long before they added their second. A good cross was cleared to the edge of the area only for Walter to hit it on the half volley and riffle it into the net.  Achilles were still very dangerous on the break and the back 3 of Day, Jargroop and Sanders moped up there attacks. Achilles pulled a goal back when a goal kick went straight to the centre forward who coolly lobbed Gathercole in goal. This brought Brandon back to life and another string of shots were well saved by the keeper. with 15mins left to go Wilcox scored a great goal from 20yrds to restore the 2 goal lead. Brandon created loads more chances but could not find the net, on another day they could have scored 8 or 9. But a good all round performance against a good solid side.  Well done to all the boys.

Stow Town 0  Brandon Lads 8
Brandon visited stow town with only the bare 11 players for their first league fixture of the season. Stow started strongly and put Brandon under pressure with some good pressing play, but could not break through the defence of Jagroop, Day and Haley to trouble Gathercole in goal.  After ten minutes Brandon started to settle and get into their passing game, good chances were created by the ever impressive partnership of Beard and F.Joe. After chances went begging up popped Jordan for his first goal in a Brandon shirt with a powerful drive.  Brandon were now creating good chances and playing some nice football, Beard then fired in a good shot to beat the stow keeper. With Sanders dominating the midfield battles and some good passing from him, Last and Thompson Brandon scored a third through Lines's first competitive goal for the club.
The second half started as the first finished and with Brandon now relaxed they seemed to pass the ball alot better. with chances coming in thick and fast they went further ahead through F.Joe with a great individual goal. F.Joe then added his second and third with well taken finishes. Stow were still trying hard and nearly pulled a goal back but Gathercole saved well at the striker's feet. Line's added his second after the keeper saved well at the feet of Beard only for his clearance to fall to Lines's who scored with a 25 yard effort into a empty net. Last was always a threat with his skillful runs. Line's then added his third. Sanders came close with a 25 yard free kick which the keeper did well to tip over the bar.

Stow falcons 0 Brandon Lads 14

Brandon started their first 11 aside friendly of the season with caution, trying to get used to the new formation and the use of such a big space.
they passed the ball around really well in the centre of midfield and with the pace of Beard and F. Joe were causing the falcons defence loads of problems.
Brandon managed to break through the defence mid way through the first 1/3 of the game with some great passing and a good cross saw Thompson put the ball in the back of the net. from this moment Brandon gained in confidence and some good football was played. Brandon scored another 3 Before the break.
the second 1/3 of the game saw the new players get a chance,  Lines came on the right wing and played some nice football, Langston also looked strong in attack with Haley and Day looking good in defence. Brandon scored another 5 goals with some great passing football.
the last 1/3 and Brandon now seemed to be enjoying the wide space on a big pitch. both Sanders and Walter were playing some nice balls around the park and Brandon added another 6 goals.
A good all round performance and with more games to come the lads will be looking to improve on there performance.
Goals from Beard (6), F.Joe (3), J. Thompson (3), Langston, Wilcox
